Trapped in his own body。 Unable to let anyone know that he is alive and listening to everyone, their confessions, their loves and hates。 How can he let someone know he is aware?

A great read, had me gripped from a few chapters in。 However, I thought the ending was abit underwhelming!

Really unique, loved the twists, just a great read!!

Entertaining enough。

Dit boek ging tergend langzaam en er gebeurde eigenlijk maar weinig。 Niet mijn schrijfstijl。

Quite difficult to read because of subject - a young man in a persistent vegetative state。 He can see, hear and feel everything though。 And then realised his fall wasn't an accident!Well done Quite difficult to read because of subject - a young man in a persistent vegetative state。 He can see, hear and feel everything though。 And then realised his fall wasn't an accident!Well done 。。。more

Pretty good thriller about a man trapped in his comatose body and can only hear the people around him figuring out what happened to him。 Although it takes an incredibly long time to get anywhere at all and there's absolutely no way anyone could have guessed who did it。(view spoiler)[ The reveal of who pushed him was a bit stupid in that it was the father of the girl who drowned who was only briefly mentioned once previously in the book for about 3 lines and then never again。 I didn't even rememb Pretty good thriller about a man trapped in his comatose body and can only hear the people around him figuring out what happened to him。 Although it takes an incredibly long time to get anywhere at all and there's absolutely no way anyone could have guessed who did it。(view spoiler)[ The reveal of who pushed him was a bit stupid in that it was the father of the girl who drowned who was only briefly mentioned once previously in the book for about 3 lines and then never again。 I didn't even remember that happened! First time I've read a book from perspective of victim。 Descriptive writing and nice short chapters。 Well written and story plot took you in during the opening chapters。 The story could only have concluded in two ways, but the author managed to take the reader with the plot until the closing chapters before giving away the conclusion。 Well described dynamics between friends and family of Alex and their interactions。 I enjoyed novel more than I expected。 First time I've read a book from perspective of victim。 Descriptive writing and nice short chapters。 Well written and story plot took you in during the opening chapters。 The story could only have concluded in two ways, but the author managed to take the reader with the plot until the closing chapters before giving away the conclusion。 Well described dynamics between friends and family of Alex and their interactions。 I enjoyed novel more than I expected。 。。。more

Alex Jackson is 27 and has suffered a climbing accident that’s put him in a coma。 He’s in a state of “lockdown syndrome” where unbeknown to anyone he can hear everything around him。Imagine that! He’s also a Journalist on the Bristol Post which I was so happy to hear as it’s my hometown。He loves his girlfriend Bea more than life itself…。literally…。until he’s so entrenched with what he’s finding out (listening unknowingly) that he needs to find out who tried to kill him。This author has absolutely d Alex Jackson is 27 and has suffered a climbing accident that’s put him in a coma。 He’s in a state of “lockdown syndrome” where unbeknown to anyone he can hear everything around him。Imagine that! He’s also a Journalist on the Bristol Post which I was so happy to hear as it’s my hometown。He loves his girlfriend Bea more than life itself…。literally…。until he’s so entrenched with what he’s finding out (listening unknowingly) that he needs to find out who tried to kill him。This author has absolutely done her homework as she gets into the mind of a person in this medical state。 I was in awe。This is told from Alex and I loved it, absolutely and most definitely loved this。I’ll be looking at the authors other books as I do love her writing。This plot had me hanging on every sentence。 。。。more

I really can't understand all of the high ratings here。 This is the most mundane & boring book I've ever read。 I use the term 'read' loosely; I skimmed through the last half to find out whodunnit and if Alex ever emerges from his coma。 On the latter, I'm still not entirely sure。 I'd hoped so, just so that Connie could get her comeuppance。 Not one of the characters is likeable, there's way too much dialogue, and so much of the writing didn't so much further the plot but weigh it down。 Snore。 Woul I really can't understand all of the high ratings here。 This is the most mundane & boring book I've ever read。 I use the term 'read' loosely; I skimmed through the last half to find out whodunnit and if Alex ever emerges from his coma。 On the latter, I'm still not entirely sure。 I'd hoped so, just so that Connie could get her comeuppance。 Not one of the characters is likeable, there's way too much dialogue, and so much of the writing didn't so much further the plot but weigh it down。 Snore。 Would not recommend。 。。。more

I think if you didn’t know the Bristol area the constant reference points would be annoying。 Wasn’t expecting the last few pages but I enjoyed the ending。

Clair Matthews

Loved the original concept of this book。 Great perspective。 But I found the story a little mediocre。

Rebecca Morrice

Beautifully written book that made me cry at the ending。

I’m just not sure about this。 It was an enjoyable read and I pressed on because I wanted to know who dunnit。 It was pretty slow moving, not surprising considering the state of the narrator。 Overall, I enjoyed it but I’m picking a book with more activity for my next read。

The story intrigued me and I was excited to read this but it’s such a slow start。 I started it once and gave up and then finished it the second time! It got a bit more interesting in the second half of the book and then of course at the end but I’m really tired of books where the first half is a slog。 I also was really disappointed with the ending so I just couldn’t love this book as much as I wanted to。

3。5* - I really wish you could give half stars at 4 feels too generous but 3 too low!It was a good book with a great premise that kept me hanging on until about 30 pages from the end when you found answers but they were satisfactory and then the book just seems to dwindle to a conclusion。 I feel like more could have been done to push this book to a higher rating! Het boek was erg spannend maar ook zielig en realistisch。 Het duurde lang dat echt de thriller er aan kwam maar het vulde zich op met hoop en je komt er echt in te zitten。

I honestly really didn't like this book - it was incredibly dull and the coma patient perspective was not engaging in the slightest。 It was incredibly predictable AND I honestly think harmful。(view spoiler)[I hate that this author portrayed a coma patient desperately trying to communicated to his family that he doesn't want to die and then ultimately is killed anyway。 I think this is really harmful for any person who has, or will have to, make the incredibly difficult and heart breaking decision I honestly really didn't like this book - it was incredibly dull and the coma patient perspective was not engaging in the slightest。 It was incredibly predictable AND I honestly think harmful。(view spoiler)[I hate that this author portrayed a coma patient desperately trying to communicated to his family that he doesn't want to die and then ultimately is killed anyway。 I think this is really harmful for any person who has, or will have to, make the incredibly difficult and heart breaking decision to take a family member off life support。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

A really unique concept and original murder mystery, but this time the only one who can solve it is the victim。I genuinely felt extreme claustrophobia reading this book in that I was fully immersed in the character of Alex who we find out very early on is in a coma。 If I went a few days without reading a chapter I would get a feeling of being like Alex myself。 Stuck in limbo, waiting for the next spell of consciousness, waiting for the next chapter。Emily Koch has done a wonderful job here and ha A really unique concept and original murder mystery, but this time the only one who can solve it is the victim。I genuinely felt extreme claustrophobia reading this book in that I was fully immersed in the character of Alex who we find out very early on is in a coma。 If I went a few days without reading a chapter I would get a feeling of being like Alex myself。 Stuck in limbo, waiting for the next spell of consciousness, waiting for the next chapter。Emily Koch has done a wonderful job here and has left me torn between what really happens at the end。 Will be reading more of her work going forward if this book is anything to go off 。。。more

The idea for this book is original and unique。 It's well written and relies heavily on descriptive text which is very good。 I'm from Bristol and appreciate the mentions of my home city - adding a familiarity to the book。 I've only given it three starts cos the story is just a bit slow and, I understand why, but it's incredibly frustrating to read much of the time。 This fits in with the protagonist's view point and is well done, but I'm not sure it makes it an enjoyable read。 I'm conflicted! Entertaining and engaging book。 Really interesting to read something in which the main character has no interaction with the others。 Good plot twist and surprising ending。Would read more from this author。
